Random Ramblings

January 29th, 2010

Let’s see… what’s new lately? Well, I got an e-mail today from one of our Warriors, checking in to let me know he and his group are still kicking. He attached a couple of pictures of some kids in their area of operations. Looking at the pictures, one can’t help but think that children are [...]

An Awesome Post Office Story

January 4th, 2010

I went to the post office on my way home from work this afternoon. I had one rather large, heavy-ish box that was going parcel post  Space Available, and four Priority Large Flat Rate Boxes ready to go, but since I wasn’t sure how much the large box was going to cost, I took it [...]

First Care Packages of 2010

January 2nd, 2010

Jack is over at Paul’s house chopping up a black walnut tree for firewood, and I’m here at home working on care packages.  I think it’s a wonderful way to start a brand new year; hopefully the recipients will think it’s not too shabby, too. LOL! I’ve already got one box filled up, the customs [...]

Raise Dough for the Troops

December 28th, 2009

Christmas is behind us now, and between donations of items from some folks at work and raising $600 through my “Help Raise Dough for the Troops” efforts, I managed to mail off 17 Christmas-specific care packages to Warriors in Iraq and Afghanistan. (That equals $203.15 in postage, using the large flat rate boxes.) I’ve also [...]

Time for an update

November 28th, 2009

I got the last of the Christmas items that Jini and I bought, and the ones that were donated by three people at work, packed into boxes and on their way to the troops. Now I’m ready to switch gears back to “general care packages.” During the holidays, people will send a lot of stuff, [...]

Well, not just to Iraq; got some on the way to Afghanistan, as well. Jack and I dropped off four packages this morning. One was a very small box (the customs form was bigger than the box), headed for a young man in Iraq who has insisted on letters only, but I couldn’t let him [...]

Monday Morning Update

November 2nd, 2009

Doesn’t seem like it should be November already, but here it is. One good thing about it – several of our adopted Warriors will be headed home before you know it. While the year seems to have flown by from my point of view, I imagine to our troops who are deployed and their loved [...]

Just Out of the Blue…

October 29th, 2009

My day started with my Warrior Randy, who is currently in Iraq, buzzing me on IM as soon as I turned on the computer, to tell me his wallet was $20 lighter. I replied “$20 lighter, huh? What happened?” He said “It’s the darndest thing; $20 fell out of my pocket and landed in this [...]

New “old” contacts

October 14th, 2009

We’ve been supporting our troops long enough now that we’re finding ourselves with quite a number of “repeaters.” I was going through the contact updates on AnySoldier, not that we need another to support at the moment, when I found a name I recognized as a Soldier we adopted in 2007 when he was deployed [...]

I put four care packages in the mail today, thanks to funds from “Help Raise Dough for the Troops.” Shawn also donated $12 to cover postage on one of them, which was an immense help. That’s $12 I’ll be able to use for “stuff” rather than postage. It’s time to start collecting stuff for Christmas [...]
