There are many ways to support our Warriors and their families, as well as Veterans and wounded Warriors. Depending on your circumstances, your skills, time available…any criteria you set…there is something you can do to actively show support. It’s not enough to just slap a “Support the Troops!” magnet or bumper sticker on your car.
The best place to go to find a site that matches up with your desire to “do something,” in my honest opinion, is one run by the Department of Defense. Every website listed on their page is approved by the DoD, and there is a wide variety to choose from. That is where I found my favorite support sites, such as AnySoldier, AdoptAUSSoldier, SponsorTheTroops, and others.
When you get to the site, you will find a lot of information. Look on the right side of the page for a box that is labeled “Support Our Troops,” and you will see three links. The middle one is the one to click to get to a page full of website links. Take your time and browse. You are sure to find something that will grab your interest and enable you to get involved with a project to show your support for our Warriors and their families.
One of my favorite sites is AnySoldier.com. Check it out when you get a chance; it’s pretty awesome. Be sure to read the history of the site; I think it’s fascinating how it all started, and Marty and his family do a fantastic job. Then read the FAQ, and the “How to Send” and “What to Send” pages ~ then you’re ready to move on to the “Where to Send” tab, where you find troop profiles detailing what they need or want. When you find one that touches your heart, you click on the link to request address, and it will be e-mailed to you.
Donations are accepted to help keep the AnySoldier site up and running, but you do not have to donate in order to request addresses. I give what I can, when I can. I’d hate if Marty had to shut down the site due to lack of funds.
