In today’s mail there was a letter from one of our Warriors in Afghanistan who will be going home before long. He included his home address (Ft. Richardson, Alaska) so we could continue to correspond when he gets home; that was nice. We lose track of about 99% of our troops once they get back to the real world. He’s e-mailed pictures of his wife, their two kids (one of whom is brand new; born October 23, 2009) and their dog Thor, so I guess we’re not strangers. LOL!
I also got a Certificate of Appreciation from the Army, as well as a lapel pin and two decals, thanks to our Warrior SPC Grailer, who nominated me for supporting the troops. The cover letter said “You have been submitted for a U.S. Army Freedom Team Salute Commendation by SPC Randy Grailer for your contributions to our Army community.” So, thanks, Randy – that wasn’t necessary, but is greatly appreciated and will always be treasured.
I went to the post office at lunch time to mail my package to Mom, and the postal clerk was amazed that it was going to Florida instead of over to Iraq or Afghanistan. He stood there for a second after I set the box on the counter – I think he was waiting for me to hand over the customs form – so I said “Robert, this one is for my Mom. It’s going to Florida.” So it’s not just me automatically thinking if I am mailing a package, it needs a customs form…LOL!!

I know this also has happened to you, but it seems lately most of my contacts are dropped from the list for not posting, so I have to repack parcels. Thats’ easy; the hard part is not knowing why and where are they, what’s their condition, etc. Again, congrats of the recognition by the Army for your efforts on behalf of our Troops.
