Jennifer brought me another folder full of letters/cards/artwork from students at Harpeth Middle School. I always look through them before I put them in the big envelope and send them on their way. This bundle of correspondence had Veteran’s Day cards, Christmas cards, and letters of thanks, probably about 160 all together. I have two contacts who specifically requested letters from kids, so I split them into two piles using the old “one for me, one for you” method of sorting, just to keep things fair.
This bunch of letters and cards was awesome. The kids seemed to be a little more comfortable with the assignment and put more thought into the things they wrote. By the time I was halfway through the stack of letters, I had tears running down my face. No wonder our Warriors like to hear from the kids – they’re honest and speak straight from the heart. One of the last letters in the stack made me laugh, even as I was crying – the young man who wrote it said “The only advice I can think to give you when you are scared is to think of the people who love you. Be wise in the decisions you make when you face the enemy, and keep your mistakes to a minimum.” Y’all, this was written by a 10-year-old…from the mouths of babes!
I got another Christmas box put together and ready to drop in the mail tomorrow, along with the two FRE’s full of letters, one going to Afghanistan, the other to Iraq. That makes 6 Christmas packages so far, and a few more to put together yet. I’ve got $130 worth of bread orders to fill before Thanksgiving, so coming up with postage for the remaining packages is going to be a piece of cake….or a loaf of bread, if you prefer. LOL! I will definitely be taking next Monday off to bake bread and rolls and still may be baking late into the evening to finish up.
I’m tired, so I’m going to sign off for now. Y’all take care. I’ll type at ya later…

I would love to read these letters, I know they were awesome. You know I think we should have these kids running our country–at least that would mean we could believe what they say and they would be doing what was right for everyone! Sounds like you are gonna be busy next week. Let me know if there is anything you knead!;)

Very “punny,” dear. Yeah, the letters were awesome. Some funny, ALL touching. One young man said his uncle is over there, and if the Soldier who got his letter happened to see his uncle, would he please tell him “Hi.” Another letter said “I hope you aren’t hurt, but if you are hurt I pray for you to get better.” Next batch that comes in, I will let you proofread with me – just be sure to have a kleenex handy.

Make that $200 worth of bread orders…Jennifer just e-mailed a colossal order she got from students this morning.

Good going, Tracy; I too would love to read those cards & letters. The advise from the 10-year-old was unbelievably wise! Take care. I may hava a go at getting some letters/cards done really soon, but only have a very small group of kids to “target”! LOL Maddog
