Jack and I went to see “The Hurt Locker” today at the theater in Clarksville. It’s a limited release movie, and we were fortunate that it was playing in Nashville and Clarksville. It is a movie about an EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) team in Iraq, and it’s pretty intense. I read about it yesterday on the AnySoldier forums, then went to the website and watched the trailers, and decided I wanted to see it. (I happen to have some EOD techs adopted from AnySoldier.) I e-mailed Jack the link and told him “I want to see this movie.” My family claims I am spoiled, that all I have to do is want something and I get it…maybe they’re not so far off the mark after all. LOL!
It was a pretty good movie; I would recommend it to anyone except someone suffering from PTSD. It would probably be a little too intense and bring back too many bad memories in that case. If it is available in your area, it’s worth the price of a ticket to see. When it comes out on DVD, I’ll buy it. It will fit right in with “Saving Private Ryan,” “Taking Chance,” “The Windtalkers,” and the rest of our selection of war movies.
We got an e-mail today from a Soldier who happened to get one of the Guardian Angel cards I sent to a contact. He thanked us for keeping our troops in our thoughts and prayers, and said it made him smile when he got the Guardian Angel. He said he and his squad have had a rough time over the past few months, and with so many depressing things happening they found very little to smile about. It made me feel good to know something I created and sent over to our Warriors actually made a difference to somebody. I’ve gone through my Rolodex and figured out which contact he is with, and will be sending him a card or letter of his own this week. Of course, I already e-mailed back and let him know how glad I was that he found a smile in that simple little card.
Tomorrow is another work day, and I’ve got things I should be doing rather than sitting here boring people, so I’ll just say “so long” for the moment and catch up with y’all later. Take care, and if any of my Warriors happen to read this, you know the routine: Blah blah blah, nag nag nag, STAY SAFE!! Don’t make me have to come over there….

By the way, the phrase “the hurt locker” is a term EOD techs use that describes where you go when the bomb you are trying to defuse detonates instead. Hence the title of the movie…

Awesome flick!

I’ve seen the ads for this movie and had already decided that I want to see it. I’m glad that you got to see it and give it your seal of approval. Your recomendation may just put me over the top. At the very least, I’ll want to see it when you get it on DVD.
On a similar note, Jennifer’s cousin, Andy, will be transferring to Ft. Campbell in the next couple of weeks. Andy is currently training in Fla. to be a bomb disposal tech, and he’ll be graduated in a couple of weeks. We don’t know where he’ll be deployed after he’s done with training, but we can likely guess. You wouldn’t believe the signing bonus for that job. They get $100,000 bonus for it, but it seems to me that it should be higher, considering the risk.
Nice blog, and nice site!

Hey, Paul, glad to see you finally visited my site, or at least the blog part of it.
Andy has my utmost appreciation and respect for not only serving our country, but for his MOS choice. I’m with you on the signing bonus – but at least they DO get a bonus for assuming the risk of being an EOD tech. All of our Warriors put their lives on the line every day over there, but these guys even more so. Guess you gotta be an adrenaline junkie to tackle that one.
