Here I am again

Posted July 24th, 2009 by Ms Tracy

Since it’s payday, I have a whole $40 at my disposal – Woo-hoo!! I have stuff in my “soldier stash,” so I guess this time my entire allowance will go for postage. The balance in the Troop Support Account is $44.85, which will cover postage for 4 small FRB’s or 3 large FRB’s. If I ship three large FRB’s that will leave a balance of $9.oo in the account; four small FRB’s will leave a balance of $3.75. Decisions, decisions…

I certainly don’t have a shortage of Warriors to send to. I am going to make sure one box goes to my new group from Adopt A US Soldier; there are 24 men in the group and they’re not getting much mail. I’ll put together a box of miscellaneous goodies, and make sure 24 Guardian Angel cards go into the package, along with my usual “Thank you for all you do on our behalf” note.

When you adopt a troop from Adopt A US Soldier, they give you the person’s e-mail address along with their APO/FPO address, which is quite handy; I’ve already e-mailed the soldier and asked a few vital questions (How many Soldiers are you representing? Any females in the group? What do y’all like, want, or need? Do you have a microwave? Any food allergies in the group?) and he’s responded, so I’m good to go on this one. Their biggest request is just “mail, so we know somebody cares that we’re here.” I can do that…I DO care.

I don’t know how many people who are reading this are aware that Jack and I are members of the Patriot Guard Riders, but we are. Unfortunately, most of the missions are very short notice, and happen during the work week, and we miss most of them.  Back in March we stood the flag line at the funeral of 1LT William “Eric” Emmert, and I wear a KIA bracelet in his honor. Well, the latest short notice mission is taking place today ~ a bridge is being named in Eric’s honor, and I wish I could be there. I’ll have to settle for watching on the news this evening – IF the news media sees fit to report on the ceremony. We all know how they tend to ignore the good stuff. The only reason I even know about the bridge-naming ceremony is because I got an e-mail notice from PGR with the details this morning.

I’m using my lunch time to write my blog today, and I’m almost out of time. I will write again later. Meanwhile, everybody keep your head down and your chin up, and take care!
