In My Own Words

Let’s see…what’s new?  Let me think for a moment.

Oh, yeah, two of my Warriors are going to be home in a few days; another one will be home for R&R at about the same time Kenneth and Rick are coming home for good. One who was originally going to be home in August asked for an extension, and has moved to another camp, where he will be for at least six more months. (What the heck were you thinking, Jon??) He still insists NO PACKAGES; all he wants is letters and cards. One of my fellow supporters is just itching to send some “stuff,” but Jon says if anybody sends “stuff,” he will be perturbed at them. (Go ahead, Pam, send him a care package ~ I’M not going there!!)

I was chatting with Jon on Yahoo IM yesterday, and when he asked what I was up to, I told him Jack and I were going to the firing range this weekend; since we got our carry permits, it makes sense to stay in practice with our weapons. Jon replied that “an old lady with a weapon” was a scary thing ~ he said “I can see it now; you’re at the grocery store, your coupons are expired and you’re not getting your discount. So you pull your weapon and say “Give me my 10 cents off!!!” Then he said he laughed until he almost cried just picturing that scenario. I told him any time I could make one of our Warriors laugh, that was mission accomplished, and he wanted to know “Even if it’s at your own expense?” Well, laughter is laughter, and it’s good for what ails you, so, yeah, even at my own expense.

Well, shucks, it’s bedtime once again. Tomorrow is the start of another work week; I still have a little bit of stuff to move from my office at the annex to my new/old space at the board office. I’m okay with it now; got my wall(s) put back up and my flag quilt re-hung; I’m cramped and crowded, but still surrounded by my Hero’s Wall of Fame. I hope to be settled in by Tuesday, if I can find an empty space to fit the rest of my “stuff” into. Ring binders, office supplies, you name it…I have no room for it. D’oh!!
